Welcome to the Bacillus Genetic Stock Center (BGSC) at The Ohio State University, located on the university's main campus in Columbus, Ohio. The BGSC is operated by the Infectious Diseases Institute, a world-renowned interdisciplinary research institute, in partnership with the Department of Microbiology, College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Justin North, Assistant Professor, is the BGSC faculty director.

Originally funded by an award from the United States National Science Foundation (US NSF) in 1978,The primary mission of the BGSC is to maintain genetically characterized strains and cloning vectors for the genus Bacillus and related organisms for sale to the academic, government, and industry research communities.

The Bacillus Genetic Stock Center (BGSC) maintains a collection of over 10,000 unique strains available for purchase to support a wide range of research needs.

BGSC strains are provided for research use only and are not permitted for commercial use without an appropriate licensing agreement from the original strain donor institution.

In order to maintain accessible pricing for the global research community—including academic, government, nonprofit, and industry customers—the Bacillus Genetic Stock Center (BGSC) operates with streamlined ordering and payment processes.

Payment Method
BGSC accepts credit card payments only. Purchase orders, wire transfers, checks, or other payment methods are not supported. This policy allows BGSC to minimize administrative overhead and keep strain and plasmid prices as low as possible for all customers.

Quotes
BGSC does not provide formal written quotes.

For customers whose organization requires documentation in advance of making a credit card purchase, we recommend one of the following:

  • Capturing a screen shot of the Strain Prices and Shipping Fees page
  • Adding items to the order cart and capturing a screen shot of the cart summary prior to checkout

These options typically satisfy institutional documentation requirements while allowing BGSC to maintain efficient operations.

Shipping Address
BGSC ships orders to organizational addresses only. Shimpments to residential addresses are not permitted under any circumstances.
 
International Customers
In addition to the international shipping and handling fee, international customers are responsible for import customs clearance and payment of any applicable non‑shipping charges, including import duties, value‑added tax (VAT/GST), brokerage, clearance, or other governmental fees imposed by the destination country.
